Caring for Queensland prisoners, ex-inmates and their families.
Prison Fellowship Queensland is active in each of Queensland’s 13 Correctional Centres with over 30 Chaplains and approximately 200 Accredited Volunteers. The Chaplains are engaged in diverse in-prison services including Pastoral Care, Chapel Services, the Angel Tree Program, Concerts and Sport. The volunteers outside also assist in Angel Tree and other programs like the Art Exhibition, Court Support, Post Release Transport & Support, and Family Support.
The annual Angel Tree Program demonstrates how we connect our chaplaincy service with the church community to produce practical support for prisoners and their families. PFQ coordinates volunteers and Church groups to deliver Christmas gifts to children of prisoners on behalf of the parent in prison. Each year approximately 1500-2500 gifts are delivered.
PFQ is also running Restorative Justice Programs like the Sycamore Tree Project. These programs give prisoners the opportunity to face the reality of their actions, hear victim’s stories & visa-versa, and give opportunity for the expression of sorrow for actions, forgiveness, restitution and reconciliation.
